Here it is 12 days of freedom- I was planning to do a long ride up the coast for some time, even before I got my bike. I had just started gathering the supplies I would need, tent, sleeping bag, etc, when I talked to my cousin,Paul, who told me he was driving up to Portland. Perfect someone with a truck to go with for half the trip! So I requested some time off work, 10 days, (notice that is shorter than the trip, Oops!), and we set off! Here's the actual route, with markers where we stayed the night.---> Big Figure EightLoaded up and ready to ride Day 1, mile 0. From there I met up with my cousin, Paul, who is moving up to Oregon. Paul and his dog Charlie were with me for a good part of the trip. His sweet ride-- First stop San Francisco We camped just north of here at Point Reyes. We continued north up the coast on Highway 1 then 101 into the redwoods. Here's the ride from Paul's point of view-- Some Northern California coast and red woods--

The second night we stayed just north of Pierre Creek. We camped a mile or two up a closed road...we're to cheap to pay for a patch of grass and running water. Here's Paul cooking up a great tri-tip The foggy, wet, morning. The next day we kept heading north through the red woods and then up the Oregon coast. We spent the night with Paul's friend in Corvallis and did a little bar hopping in the college town. The only picture We spent the weekend up in Portland at my sisters house. The KLR and due for an oil change. Also, my cousin noticed one of the frame bolts had vibrated most of the way out. I tightened it up. Taking advantage of a free place to stay, we had 2 full "rest days" in Portland. Down town-- A party we ended up at.. Portland "Keeping it Weird"

We spent the next two days driving/riding down the Washington coast, most of which is rain forest. Great riding, but lots of rain. My $10 Wal-mart rain suit, worth every penny I thought this was pretty cool... the earth's crust is sticking up thought the beach. You can see Paul and his dog in this one-- Passed some more wildlife and had some visit us at our campsite in Washington. The people before us left some dong food which this guy quickly cleaned up. We then crossed back into Oregon and split up. Paul went back to Corvallis and I headed south.

A few hours later I set up camp at Umpqua Lighthouse on the Oregon coast. I camped next to an ADVrider and we pulled out the maps planning the next days route. He told me to go by Crater Lake. Lots of good riding and scenery on the way there. Crater Lake is pretty awesome. No rivers in or out. I continued south keeping an eye out for my next camping spot. This butterfly wasn't gonna stop me! I had no time to mourn, off to Mt. Shasta. Using the timer on the camera can be tricky-- Third time is a charm. The finial night.. alone in the woods just south of Mt. Shasta at Lake Siskiyou. I didn't want to set up my tent til dark because I didn't want to be spotted. And of course the bike wouldn't start in the morning. I was a couple miles of the road and went around several fallen trees I tried roll starting it but couldn't get up enough speed or grip on the dirt. With no chance of rescue I said a little prayer at hit the start button one more time. It fired up! I made it out to the road and then stalled it as I jumped up to the pavement. I pushed it up a slight hill was able to roll start it. No more pictures, I just wanted to make it home. I rode the next 400 miles without shutting down the bike. Turns out the battery was completely dry. When I got home, I filled it and charged it back up, no problems sense.
