so my buddy just picked up his first bike and he's not diggin' the "old school" paint job on his "new" 1990 Suzuki GS500E... so what paint to use??? any suggestions.. he wants to keep it as cheap as possible so rattle can is probably what I'll end up using.. . any input on how to do it is appreciated. cool

looks like this except red:

Plan on low expectations using rattle can lol. Best advice i can give for prepping a rattle can job is to just make sure you got every surface sanded where the paint/primer will come in contact with. Start with a courser grid wet sand paper of 220 if you have alot of chips, then finish with a 400 to remove the scratches of the 220. This is just a starting point

OH NO... I doubt hell want any work from me considering IM on the pricey side... I always say " You get what you pay for" And Rattle Can will look like shit trust, Look Dull, inconsistant, and when u spill gas on ur tank it will wipe it right off :) just alittle hint...

Grind decals off that are under clear, Finsh em with 180...

Primer all area that wear scratched, dented after fixed,
Wet sand with 400 grit
Go over everything with 600 grit

Then Prep it for paint....

Easy enough.

Rattle Can Wont fully seal your car or bike Still allows moisture to soaked through the paint and rust your metal underneath... Just like with all these guys running around with these trucks all shaved up with primer on them... Sooner or later all the filler and metal will be rusted underneath from letting water through..

Yeah use high quality krylon spray paint. Prep the shat out of it! Will look decent. Try not to spill gas on it...

Expect to paint it once every year too.

Im thinking a flat black. Then do a stock decal sticker set. Will lokk the cleanest with spray paint. You can not get too intricate with spray paint. keep it simple.

so started this a few days ago.. sanded, primer'd, did some small fills..and finally started spraying..

almost done... my buddie likes the kawi green, so were calling this one "goosebumps"

went with krylon satin black for the most part... then Rustoleum satin black for the gas tank since according to net reviews its the most gas resistant rattle paint..

more updates coming soon as weather clears up...

adding clear coat over and some more "booger green" detailing lol beeurk

**sorry forgot to take pics of filling and primer'd parts..and been lazy to take off front tire hugger **

original look:
